Leanne Franson

Leanne Franson was born in Regina, Saskatchewan in 1963. She remembers drawing since she was 4 years old, and has always loved books. She drew in school, and then at Concordia University in Montreal. Then she drew more, and more and more. Finally she discovered she could not only draw and read books, but draw FOR books! She has been happily drawing the illustrations for picture books and school books in both English and French since 1991. She especially loves drawing children and animals, and children WITH animals. She also is very concerned about the environment, and was very excited to help create Emma’s Gems with the author Anne Renaud, as it can inspire everyone of any age to help the world be a better place. Leanne lives and works in Martensville, Saskatchewan, which is just north of Saskatoon. She draws and creates ceramics in her home studio on an acreage. She can see deer, coyotes, fox, birds and insects in her yard every day. She creates wee ceramic animals, and adds them to bowls and cups she makes out of clay. Her son, Benjamin also loves to create, and shares his mom’s love of books. They have a black and white dog named Bella, and a calico cat named Kitty Alley. Leanne hopes to continue making books for children and adults, and to help the world be a better place, for a long long time.
