Evergreen Voting

Voting for the Evergreen Award program (for adult readers) takes place during the month of September. Readers must read a minimum of 1 out of the 10 nominated titles in order to qualify to vote. The winner will be announced during Ontario Public Library Week, the third week in October.

Registration Opens!

Registration Opens!

While the nominated titles for Forest of Reading have not yet been announced, teachers, parents and library staff can get a head start and register for the 2019 program after October 1. You may also purchase books while registering. At this time, you may choose to assemble a committee of staff, parents, and volunteers to decide when you are going to run your program. Please Note: Forest of Reading registration is an annual fee and separate from your Ontario Library Association membership. You must be registered in order to use the names and logos of the Forest and its programs.

Ontario Public Library Week

October is Canadian Library Month! During this month, libraries and library partners across Canada raise awareness of the valuable role libraries play in Canadians’ lives. In Ontario, we celebrate our public libraries during Ontario Public Library Week (OPLW), on October 14 to 20, 2018. The winner of the Evergreen Award will be announcing during Ontario Public Library Week.

Nominated Lists for 2019 Announced!

Nominated titles for school-aged programs are announced through our website, social media, and our media partners. Purchase at least one copy of each nominated book. Don’t forget to promote the program around the school/library and engage other teachers and library staff to build buzz for the program. You can also share the nominated lists on your social media!

Resources Become Available

It’s time to kick off your 2019 Forest program! Access hundreds of resources through the password website (which you are on right now!) for the nominated titles. Download resources to use and materials to decorate your reading area and engage young readers. Post details and timelines on your website and notify teachers and staff about important dates. Send home letters explaining the program to parents. Set up displays and begin motivational activities. Start reading! All the Resources can be viewed and downloaded under General Resources and Program Resources.

Time to Vote!

Now that your readers have read all titles in their award program, it’s time to choose their favourite! Only registrants can vote. Readers must read a minimum of 5 out of the 10 nominated titles, with the exception of Blue Spruce and Peuplier, where readers must read or be read to all 10 books, in order to qualify to vote. Voting is open for all of April. Voting closes April 30.

Attend the Festival of Trees

The Festival of Trees is a rock concert of reading, featuring live announcements of the award winners, as well as interactive workshops with nominated authors and illustrators. Award winners for the school-aged programs (Blue Spruce, Silver Birch, Red Maple, White Pine, Peuplier, and Tamarac) are announced at the Festival of Trees (English and French) in Toronto. In 2018, the Festival will be held: May 8: Waterloo Region, May 10: London, May 14-15: Toronto (English), and May 16: Toronto (French).
