Comic Shift
Written by Ted Staunton

BOOK SYNOPSIS
Des is the kid everyone overlooks, even as he longs for some recognition. He doesn’t stand out in any particular way ― except one: He’s a “super-recognizer,” someone who never forgets a face. It’s a talent not even he values.
But Des wants to change the game. So he comes up with a plan to use his superpower to help his mom’s detective squad ID the members of a crime ring that are looking to make off with some valuable items at a comic convention. Instead, he meets Cosmo, who has a power of their own. Can Des’s power help Cosmo before spies, police and an international comics empire co-opt Cosmo’s power?
A twisty story with fantastic page-turning plot points that also delivers a universal message about recognizing the strengths of your true self.

TED STAUNTON
Ted Staunton wrote his first story long ago, as a class assignment at university. He barely handed it in on time, but he’s glad he did: it became the picture book Puddleman. Now the author of something like fifty books, he writes for all ages, and he’s getting better at handing things in on time.
His YA novel Who I’m Not won the 2014 CCBC John Spray Mystery Award. Ted’s work has also been nominated for a bunch of other awards and some of it has also been published in different languages and in other countries.
Trained as a teacher, Ted speaks, performs, and leads workshops in schools, libraries and festivals across Canada. As well, he teaches the Writing Children’s Fiction courses at George Brown College. He has also travelled to Ethiopia several times to work with writers and editors there.
When he’s not writing, Ted loves playing music, sometimes in the MAPLE LEAF CHAMPIONS JUG BAND. (He always brings his guitar and banjo to schools.) He enjoys running, reading, and movies too. Born young, he is now older. Ted and his family live in Port Hope, Ontario.
