Looking for a fun and meaningful way to build a love of reading at home?
Join the Family Reading Challenge for both the Blue Spruce and Le Prix Peuplier programs and discover Canada’s best picture books together! From January 27 through April 2027, families are invited to read the books on the Forest of Reading’s Blue Spruce and Le Prix Peuplier shortlists, share stories, spark conversations, and create lasting reading memories.
Whether it’s a bedtime story, a cozy weekend read, or a special reading moment after school, every book brings an opportunity to connect, imagine, and learn together.
When you participate, you’re joining more than 270,000 young readers across Canada who take part in the Forest of Reading every year. Reading together not only strengthens literacy skills, but also helps nurture curiosity, confidence, empathy, and a lifelong love of books.
How It Works
- Read the Blue Spruce and/or Le Prix Peuplier-nominated books as a family (read 8 of 10 to be eligible to vote).
- Track your reading journey with the provided tracking sheets.
- Vote for your favourite book in April. Young people and adults will have separate voting forms.
- Tune in for a special announcement and celebrate the winning title in May!
